Situated along the stunning Atlantic coast, this South Florida city captures all of the charm and peaceful energy you’ve come to love about the state, while also forging its own path with a thriving arts and culture scene. And whether it’s the open space, gourmet cuisine, access to outdoor adventures, or just the year-round warm climate that calls your name, Fort Lauderdale is your answer.
What to Know Before You Move
More Affordable Housing
In case all of the entertainment, scenery and cuisine perks weren’t enough to convince you, Fort Lauderdale’s housing opportunities are sure to seal the deal. The city offers properties with more space and amenities at a much more affordable option than other nearby locations. With a conveniently central location and enchanting neighborhoods like Victoria Park and Flagler Village around every corner, you can easily find a dream home to settle down in.
Good Education
Moving with little ones in tow or wrapping up a degree of your own? Fort Lauderdale has a reputable education system to support you. They boast the largest fully accredited school system in the U.S. and have a number of Florida’s most prestigious universities to choose from (i.e. Broward College, Keiser University, The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and Nova Southeastern just to name a few).
Progressive Community
Fort Lauderdale’s art community is a sophisticated and diverse center for artists, music, shows and sports of all mediums to enjoy. Neighborhoods like Wilton Manors, Flagler and FAT Village give Fort Lauderdale a more forward-thinking perspective that extends throughout the entire city.
Tips for When You Move
Deciding on when the best time to move is? Don’t know when hurricane season starts? Here are a few helpful tips to make sure your move is as smooth as possible:
While we do have sunny skies for nearly the whole year, we’re also on a first name basis with hurricane season. The 2018 Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1 and will run until November 30. The Eastern Pacific Ocean season begins May 15 and runs through November 30. We suggest creating a hurricane preparedness plan with your family to stay on the safe side.
Take advantage of the perks of moving in the winter months. Not only do you avoid hurricane season, you can also expect lower moving prices and enjoy Florida’s sunny “winter” weather.
Can’t move until summer? Moving once school lets out alleviates the stress of cramming the move in a short school winter break. Plus, you can take advantage of the off-season with less traffic and sparser crowds.
Plan to arrive in the early afternoon. The traffic is lightest during this time and getting in early will allow you, and your moving truck, some time to get situated and unload before traffic starts up.
